The 2022 Future of Australian Sport report, produced by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), identifies six Sport Mega Trends that will shape the future of the sport sector in Australia.
These Sport Mega Trends range from the increasing importance of inclusivity and technology to the rise of flexible pathways to sport. In response, ASC launched the Play Well Participation Grant Program, which aims to help National Sports Organisations (NSOs) develop programs that address these trends and bring sport to more Australians in accessible, engaging ways.
At Playbk Sports, we believe collaboration with NSOs will be key to meeting these evolving demands. Through our digital learning expertise, we’re well-positioned to help NSOs leverage Play Well grants, tailoring innovative resources that align with ASC’s vision for a dynamic, inclusive future in sport.
1. Escalate the Exercise: Expanding Pathways to Sport
Australians are increasingly engaging in flexible, commitment-free physical activities that fit their lifestyle. Programs like AusCycling’s AusBike Digital, developed with Playbk Sports, demonstrate how NSOs can use digital solutions to bring sport to people on their own terms. These platforms remove barriers to entry and provide a way for sport to meet participants wherever they are.

We’re here to support NSOs in creating flexible, participant-focused programs that meet Australians where they are.
2. New Horizons: Leveraging Technology in Sports Education
As technology redefines how, when and where we learn, Playbk Sports’ digital platforms offer an avenue to reach diverse audiences, providing learning experiences tailored to individual needs. Our collaboration with Special Olympics Australia on the Inclusive Sport Academy is a prime example, ensuring that individuals of all abilities can access high-quality resources and participate meaningfully in sport.

Our expertise in creating tailored digital experiences aligns with the broader objectives of ASC’s Play Well program, making Playbk Sports a valuable resource for NSOs ready to embrace the power of technology.
3. The Next Arena: Digital Media and Virtual Engagement
Digital platforms, virtual worlds, and augmented experiences are shifting how audiences consume sport. Playbk Sports integrates these elements into traditional sports education, as seen with the AusBike Digital program, creating interactive environments that align with today’s trends.

4. Mind the Gap: Bridging Cultural and Generational Divides
Sport offers a powerful platform to promote inclusion. The Inclusive Sport Academy, developed with Special Olympics Australia, allows athletes with intellectual disabilities and autism to participate meaningfully. These projects are built around inclusivity, a core value reflected in the ASC’s Play Well initiative, which prioritises programs that make sport accessible to all.

5. Our Best Sporting Side: Safe and Sustainable Practices
With an increased focus on safety and sustainability, ASC’s Play Well initiative recognises the importance of programs that uphold these values. Playbk Sports integrates wellbeing, integrity, and environmental considerations into its eLearning platform content, ensuring sport’s impact goes beyond physical activity.

6. The Perfect Pivot: Adapting to a Changing World
As the world faces growing uncertainties, the sports sector must be ready to pivot. Our work with NSOs and global partners like NFL FLAG equips us with the knowledge and adaptability to build resilient programs that can navigate these challenges. This adaptability aligns closely with the goals of the Play Well funding, aimed at building strong and flexible sports programs.
